Worked Example: How to Add a Compensation Condition that applies to Multiple Circumstances

A pet sitting company pays its sitters $7.50 for a 20 minute dog walk. However staff who are at the level of "Senior Pay level 2" get paid $8.00. The company also pays more for walks between 9pm and 8am.

In this example, you have multiple circumstances where you need a different rate of pay for "Senior Pay level 2" staff, another for walks between 9pm and 8am, but also a price for when a staff member who is a "Senior Pay level 2" walks a dog at 10pm. It's useful to avoid creating a new service for every set of multiple circumstances. This will clutter up your service list and make the system less easy to use. Instead we set up a multiple compensation condition and apply it to the standard 20 minute dog walking service so that altered compensation rates are automatically calculated when the service is scheduled whatever the circumstances.

  • Next select "the time is between" and choose 9pm and 8am from the drop down menus

  • Type "9.00 in the box labelled "Then compensation is"

  • Click "Add".

STEP 5

This has created a rule which you can now see on the Compensation Conditions list for this service item. This rule will automatically calculate compensation of $9.00 for any 20 minute dog walk that you schedule for "Senior Pay level 2" sitters that take place between 9pm and 8am.

Next set up the single compensation conditions for both these circumstances as you can see in the example screenshot below.

  • A new condition for if "staff type is" "Senior Pay level 2" then pay $8.00

  • And another condition for if "the time is between" and select "9pm" and "8am" then pay $8.50.

PSP should automatically put the multiple statements in the correct order. If they are not, you can click "Auto-Order" to make sure, or select each condition and "move up" or "move down" to change the order in which they appear.

As a general rule, the more arguments that you have in your compensation condition then the higher up the list the condition should be.
